There’s nothing more beautiful to me than watching the sun peeking over the horizon early in the morning. Hues of pink, red and orange streaking across the blue sky and the sound of the ocean gently washing up on the shore gives me a sense of peace. This is one of the many things that I love about my home, on the island of OAHU.
This is my favorite time of day, where I can just sit quietly on the beach and let my body and mind relax. No worries and no cares, just listening to the sounds of the ocean crashing onto the surf, the sea rushing towards the white sandy beach, the birds chirping and the rustling of leaves as the wind gently blows through the palm trees. As my mind begins to wander off, the sound of my phone chiming suddenly interrupts the train of my thoughts. It’s an invitation to come to Hilo, on the island of Hawai’i.
As I deliberate on my decision, I recall a family trip that we took when I was just a young teenage girl. My Mom felt that it was important for us to see where she grew up and for us to meet our Ohana (family). I remember all of the beautiful places that my parents took us to visit. We swam in the ocean, dived into fresh water ponds, walked around the historic town of Hilo, saw a live volcano and visited our Ohana for the duration of that trip.
I learned at a very young age that no matter where you go in this life or how far the distance you travel, that home is where the heart is, firmly and undeniably planted in the root of our Ohana (family). So without hesitation, I accepted the invitation. It’s been a long time since I took a trip to the Big Island and I am very excited to see her again! My home, my Hawai’i. You are welcome to join me on this journey as we trek across the islands together...this is YOUR invitation.
A Hui Hou Kākou (until we meet again),
Island Girl
