Stir Crazy

Stir Crazy! After sheltering in place for months, I am going stir crazy! I can feel the pent up energy inside just waiting to burst!

Being raised on an island, it’s pretty much summertime all year long. So if we’re not working, then we’re playing or we’re visiting the Ohana (family)! And for most Hawaii residents, these activities are usually held outdoors. Oh, how I miss being out all day in the Hawaiian sun!

With that said, I quickly changed into shorts, t-shirt, sneakers and a baseball cap to get out of the house and get some exercise. Oh yeah, can’t forget the mask and headphones!

Yes! Sunshine, music and the wind in my face while I’m starting my 2 mile walk...how can anyone call this exercise?! As I find my rhythm, my thoughts begin to wonder how long it will take us to find a vaccine that can help restore our lives and relationships back to some normalcy or would our current situation be our new “norm” for a few years? As we begin to “re-open” our economy and lift travel bans, I wonder if we will see a second wave of COVID as predicted by the experts? Will it be worse for Hawaii? As I deliberated over my answers, I was quickly brought back to the present as l tried to dodge an on-coming walker in an effort to keep the 6 foot social distance between us. After he passed me, my thoughts began to stray again as it dawned on me that we are living through a Pandemic that dictates our health and well-being based on the choices we make.

There is a lot to think about as I begin to navigate my way through life in a future living with COVID. For now, I will just focus on the beautiful scenery of Diamond Head in the distance while I finish my exercise regimen!
