The recent release of The Right Stuff, a National Geographic Scripted series produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, is all the buzz right now. The first episode of this historical drama aired on October 9, 2020 on Disney+ and tells the tale of the astronauts selected by the NASA Space Program. The Right Stuff takes a look at what would become America’s first “reality show,” as ambitious astronauts and their families become instant celebrities in a competition that will either kill them or make them immortal, in their quest to be part of Project Mercury.

Actress Kaley Ronayne plays Dee O’Hara, a nurse for the Mercury Seven and plays opposite actors, Jake McDorman, Joe Demise, Aaron Staton, Michael Trotter, Micah Stock, Patrick J. Adams, and James Lafferty.”

Born and raised in Plymouth, Michigan, this beautiful young woman has harbored a love and passion for acting as far back as she can remember!

“I used to put on plays in my family's living room with my friends and cousins,” shared Kaley.

She would eventually grow up and book her first guest star role on a CW show when she was just 22 years old, which led to many more doors opening for her in the entertainment industry.

Now starring as Dee O’Hara, Kaley gives us a little sneak peak behind the curtain of her on-screen character!

Q: What is Dee O’Hare like?

A: Dee is a smart, quick, capable woman.

Q: Do you identify with her? If yes, how so?

A: I find her to be really inspiring. She essentially invented the job she did (nurse to the Mercury 7) and she helped make history. The astronauts relied on her for a lot, and she did her job with humor, loyalty, and discretion.

Q: What has been your most exciting experience on this set?

A: I loved seeing the historic spacecraft and spacesuits come to life. I was especially obsessed with the MASTIF--I was amazed at how they managed to recreate it so perfectly.

Q: How did you prepare yourself for this role?

A: I started by reading The Right Stuff, by Tom Wolfe. Dee had a biography written about her, but it was geared towards children, so I ended up doing my own research and read interviews with her, watched clips of her speaking.
