You probably remember the spicy 1998 movie “Dance With Me”, starring Vanessa Williams as Ruby Sinclair, Puerto Rican Singer, Chayanne as Rafael Infante, and Kris Kristofferson as John Burnett.
It’s a story about a young and incredibly talented Cuban dancer who is passionate about his culture and dancing. He falls for the beautiful Ruby who, due to her past, takes life and dance far too seriously. But Rafael’s easy going nature, joyful persona, and genuine kindness softens her hardened heart, unleashing the absolutely spontaneous and passionate side of her as well!

When she’s not burning holes in dance floors, Vanessa also spends time writing. In 2012 her autobiography, “You Have No Idea,” co-written with her mother Helen Williams, was a New York Times Bestseller. In the book, they reflect on their dual experiences of life together from pageants, to Hollywood and all of life’s ups and downs. Vanessa becomes very transparent, revealing her personal story of sexual abuse and teenage abortion.

As someone who has overcome her traumatic experiences, Vanessa shares her advice on getting past it and moving forward.
“It’s up to you to decide how YOU are going to move forward with your life after going through your own personal experiences - whatever they may be. Don’t allow yourself to keep reliving it. Ultimately, it’s up to us to choose what we want for our lives, but I think its also very important to seek guidance and counseling as well. There are numerous support groups nowadays to help a person cope with any situation. Stay positive and keep focused. Remember, YOU are the boss of you!”
Vanessa has also written a children’s book entitled, “Bubble Kisses," a sweet, sparkling story about a young girl whose beloved pet fish has wonderful, magical powers.
